The Mayor’s Youth Council meets at Village Hall located at 86 Main Street on Saturdays and Sundays at 9am. Please contact Lorraine McKay at Village Hall to signup to a cleanup route. Village Hall is open Monday thru Friday from 9am to 4pm.

About Us

A Mayor’s Youth Council is a group of young people working toward the common purpose of developing their individual leadership skills to strengthen their communities through volunteer service and increased communication with municipal leaders. The Mayor's Youth Council provides high school-aged East Hampton residents the opportunity to perform community service projects through the simple act of cleaning our streets. Due to the recent growth of our population due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there has been a rise of trash found in our public roadways and beaches. This is an important effort to help clean the place we call home, by a new generation of leaders.

Litter Routes

Village Beaches Cleanup

Over 7-miles, the beach cleanup begins at Two Mile Hollow Beach and goes to Georgica Beach and back. This is our most popular beach cleanup.

Downtown Cleanup

Over 2-miles, the litter cleanup begins at Village Hall and circles around our downtown by going up Newtown and heading back to Village Hall via Herrick Park.

Historic Main Street Cleanup

Nearly 3-miles, the litter cleanup walk begins at Village Hall and heads to Main Beach and back. A shortened version includes a turn-around at Ocean/James and back to Village Hall.

  • Does this count toward the EHHS Community Service requirement?

    Yes, the Mayor’s Youth Council community service hours are approved by East Hampton High School.

  • How do I join the Mayor’s Youth Council (MYC)?

    Please fill out the form above, or contact Lorraine McKay at Village Hall (lmckay@easthamptonvillage.org) in order to schedule a date and time to start helping out East Hampton Village.

  • How many hours a month should I plan to volunteer?

    You can do as many hours as you’d like. There are no requirements to help your community!

  • Do I need to bring anything?

    No, we have everything you will need at Village Hall.

  • What are the minimum amount of hours of community service that I must do in order to qualify for the free swag? (Hats and Hoodies)

    At least 50 hours of community service are required in order to be eligible to receive the Mayor’s Youth Council hats and hoodies.

  • What are the minimum amount of hours of community service that I must do in order to receive a personal letter of recommendation from the Mayor?

    At least 100 hours of community service are required in order to receive a letter of recommendation from Mayor Jerry Larsen.

  • Does the Mayor’s Youth Council run year-round?

    Yes, the litter program is available year-round and you must first contact Lorraine McKay at Village Hall to signup.
